Snapped Canopy
Posted by woody0369 on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 9:34 PM
Hey there! So I'm cleaning finger prints off a canopy, right? When ..SNAP...
It broke. Now it's still in one piece, barely, but it does have a nice straight crack just right of center on top. Any way to fix this? or just try to find a new one?
Any help, Anyone?

Thanks

woody -

Probably not. You can glue it, sand it smooth and vac-u-form a copy, if you have access to a new or vintage vac-u-form, or, you can carefully glue it with liquid styrene cement and sand both sides with progressively lighter grits of sand paper, probably ending up with coffee filters, and then dipping in Future and hoping for the best, probably won't be perfect but useable.

Else you can just call the manufacturer and request a replacement part. Most current kits/companies are pretty good about it.

Archer out.

You are not going to be happy with the results achieved by gluing the canopy and polishing (well, at least most likely not happy!). You most likely need to get another from manufacturer, many canopies are available as aftermarket items, or vacuform a replacement. I have tried to glue an buff out a broken canopy and ended up getting a replacement. BTW, I was very happy afterwards!
