Scratch building questions?

To those who scratch build everything: What is the process? You pick your topic. Get your measurements, scale up or down, print, and transfer to a master.

If I am building an A-10 from scratch...like the late great Michelle Chocquette did; how do make sure that your cockpit tub is true and square and level. Is the styrene wrapped, placed, glued vertically or horizontally. Is it done in strips or in sheets?

Don't need any help just want to learn.

Any help,

Porter,
I've ALWAYS found that successful scratchbuilding really has two major starting points.

1. Good tools.......and by this I mean real tools........good straightedges for cutting, engineers squares, clamps, a good set of vernier calipers for measuring, a scale ruler.........basically miniature engineers tools.......have a look at MicroMark - they've got some great miniature tools there.
2. Good references......if you want to copy it, you gotta be able to see what it looks like. Too many pictures is never enough.

The main thing is to try to develop good, positive, methodical modelling practices........and having an anal retentive, obsessive compulsive disorder type of personality (like I do) helps a HUGE amount.
I've found that if it's not right, it's not right. Or more accurately, close enough ISN'T good enough.
Mate, if you have any more questions or want some advice on a particular issue, just email me and I'll do my best for you.

Cheers, LeeTree

Lee,
Thanks for the response. I will take you up on your offer. I am still collecting the tools that I think that I may need. I just got a miniture hobby lathe and still looking at other items. I do shop at MicroMark. Looking to make some purchases before to long. Thanks for the response though. I have this itch that needs scratching. I am a long time reader of FSM.....15 years. I cannot seem to get enough information as how to scratch build. Michelle Choquette did an amazing job. It is sad that she is past on. Looking forward to working with you.
