How to paint eyes on 1/35 figures?

No problem, John! That question actually comes up quite frequently.

You did bring up a good point, however: eyebrows!

As you could tell from my comments in that other thread, I don't believe in actually painting eyes, but I do paint eyebrows. I usually use a shaved-down toothpick, but a fine brush would work just as well.

Or if you're doing a 1/35 Leonid Brezhnev (sp?), a 1/4 inch brush would be fine!

Usually I leave the whites of the eyes the same color as the skin (flesh). I do this because, from a distance you can't tell and if you use white, then the eyes will look too white. For the eye ball, the real trick is not have the eyes looking forward. Have the figure looking to the side. This will lessen the chance of your figure looking cross eyed.

I use a very fine, 10-O, brush to do the eye and the eye brow. I place the fiqure on a stand about 2 inches off of my desk. I rest my painting hand on desk and hold onto my painting hand with my other hand. This helps steady my hand and gives me more control. I use a lot of light and an very strong magnifier. Also, spraying the figure with a oil base flat coat before attempting the eyes can help. I use flat because it helps grab the paint off of the brush better. If you use acrylics and you mess up, just use a moist q-tip to clean off the eye or eyebrow.
