Actually that isn't my web site, that's Swanny's. I only wish I could build stuff half as well as he can. I agree that it's an awesome site and I've gotten a lot of help there as well.

While not nearly as interesting as his, my web site is at http://www.craigcentral.com and my modeling page is at http://www.craigcentral.com/models/default.asp

Say there Music City,

Thanks for replying with the link to your website. You offer one of the most detailed and best step by step explanations of weathering that I have read. Really appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge with those of us who do not yet have the "knack" for weathering.

In the past I've used acrylic artist colors for highlighting the recessed panel lines in a manner very much like that you have described. You're absolutely correct in stating that patience is required while using this process. My "109" looks real good though, so the extra work is well worth the effort.

I will be checking out the rest of your site when time permits. Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon.

Washes can be used to lighten or darken an area that you want to emphasize or subdue. They are commonly used in corners or where molded-in detail needs to look like it's separated from what it's molded onto. Panel lines on aircraft, greasy, grimy areas on armor, treads on tanks, recesses on wheels, pretty much anything that needs a little enhancing. The basics are covered here:

How do I apply washes?

Hello folks,
I am in the process of building Tamyias M1A Abrhams. First model Ive put together in 30+ years, and BOY HOWDY - have I learned a lot! This was my first experience with an airbrush and I can see why ya folks love em! Anyways on to the question: I have seen many references to " Sludge wash" , "Artist Oil wash", etc. First off - are they only used on small sections to highlight? How do you mix (what "ingredients" if you will) them and what manner do you apply them?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice - I read these forums VERY regularly.
