mr base white

Hey tominator!
For thinning Mr. Base White I use acetone but others around the forum have used lacquer thinner. IMHO, and based on my experience, acetone is the better of the two but lacquer thinner is cheaper. Pick your poison!

thanks 4 the help mate, but i have a question.... wouldnt those two attack the plastic?

also, have u ever tried to thin it with DA or IPA? coz i think i read somewhere that u can use the mr hobby thinner, the thinner for their acryl paints.... (gunze just make acryls right?). i prob have my lines crossed, but i though id ask, no such thing as a stoopid question right ;) hehe

oh, and something else, this stuff is the same as mr surfacer, just that it is white?

Not quite. Gunze actually makes a seperate white primer though I use Mr. Base White as such. It's just a lot smoother. I use it for gear wells and landing gear and it makes a perfect undercoat for that Ferrari Red and Maranello Yellow. Also, you don't have to worry about the thinner eating your plastic as you're spraying it on in light coats, not soaking it. It actually helps the paint to adhere better to the pastic by slightly biting in.

You're absolutely right. Ther's no such thing asa stupid question. If you're not sure, ask. Don't confuse Gunze's acrylic paint line with their primer lineup. The formulations are entirely different with the primers falling in the "lacquer" class of paints.

funny u should say that it makes a perfect undercoat for ferrari red as im gonna use it on my next kit, which is a ferrari mythos hehehe
