I use very high grit sand paper, and LIGHTLY sand the ridges down. A nice layer of gloss after that smooths out the rest. If you put on clear coat now, it will take a lot of layers.

build-up/ridges can be avoided by using as little paint as possible. This means you wil have to spray multiple thin layers.
Then you will get a smooth finish, no need to use the layers of gloss!

I only use paint brushes on little things like landing struts and stuff because it is just easier for me. Otherwise, I do all my painting with an airbrush .. a Badger, 175 I think. Badger Crescendo, whatever that one is, and I have one each small, medium, and large needles so it works very well for all kinds of things from body painting to smaller stuff.

But yeah .. to answer your question ... I use an airbrush for the kind of thing I'm talking about.

I was wondering, would a layer of clear coat do the trick? I've never worked with clear coats before but the thought hit me and it would make sense ...... advice anybody?

If there is build-up at a ridge, you can cut it away using an scalpel and/or sand it with wet high grit (1200,2000) sandpaper.

I'm curious, do you brush paint or airbrush?

When I mask over the body of a model, paint over it all, and then remove the mask, there is that teenie tiny vertical space between the original surface and the surface of the additional layer. This is the thickness of the masking tape that I use, I realize, but I want it to feel as good as it looks.

How do I get rid of that little plateau on the edges of the painted area?
