hi , only the area you intend the decal to fit , if you do it right and apply only a very thin coat you should have no problems cheers ian

Sorry ! - but why are you using it as a base? with Solvaset, MicroSol, Decal1 and Decal2 you have everything you need. After the decals have dried off completely it can be a good idea to 'set' with Future with a minimum overlap to protect against any adverse reaction to a lacquer but I don't know why you should want to use it as a base.
Have I missed something here? M

Even using the set and sol solutions, decals will sometimes not adhere properly to a flat finish. The procedure I use is to first apply future to the area where the decals are to be located. This gives the decals the necessary gloss finish to adhere to. Followed by decal set then decal sol. To return everything to flat I will spray light coats of dull-cote (2 or 3) until the finish is uniform.

I use it as a base to protect the flat finish from being water damaged.

Unless you have a very rugged, curvy or awkward surface, and provided you'll re-spray the whole thing in gloss or satin or matt varnish, Future does the job of the other products.
