                        Hey folks!
                        I was was busting my tail using plastic polish to clear up a fogged canopy so I tried toothpaste and finished up with plastic polish-plus my canopy is minty fresh!

                        I always interpereted it as maddafinga, it fits in with the rest of his gibberish and with the narrative at that point as well. It's always worked for me pretty well as maddafinga, and it still makes me laugh like hell.

                        hey ive heard the same about tpaste being used as a polish....
                        just a thought, im guessing this is being done with a cloth and a bit of elbow grease, right?
                        does anyone know if its as effective when using a electric toothbrush to apply it?

                        just use a cotton tip and it comes up good. I use normal toothpaste but apparantly smokers toothpaste is a little more agressive. Don't forget to use Future or whatever is the local version of it to get rid of the haze tat is left.

                        I use a cotton swab too. But you do need to finish wth Future or some plasic wax (like 'The Finishing Touch').

                        Make sure you're using a toothpaste with some "grit" to it. Gel toothpaste won't work worth a darn.

                        My personal choicefor toothpaste is Arm & Hammer Peroxicare...it's baking soda and peroxide...leaves your mouth feeling VERY cool & fresh.

                        I use toothpaste all the time to polish plastic and take out scrapes on my 1:1 car.

                        Another possibility is to buy some polishing products from Buehler http://www.buehler.com/productinfo/consumables.htm

                        I use them at work and they are a little expensive but polish plastic to a microscopic smoothness. You can use alumina or powdered diamond suspensions down to sub-micron particle sizes to give a very highly polished surface.

                        anyone here use and electric toothbrush with toothpaste??
                        how does it do the job compared to applying it with a cloth and some elbow grease???
                        and has anyone tried to apply other polishes(meguiars scratch x?) with a elec toothbrush (and a normal everyday head??)? how did it work out for u??
                        and do u have anyother uses for a elec toothbrush? ive converted one into a mini sander, and i like it! tho u have to watch ur work closeley, coz the toothbrush + rough grit = too much pressure = more work tan hand snading!!!!                         I just recently got this toothpaste called " Ultra clean" or whatever, and it works like a charm, because when it is irritated- in other words, brushed- it bubbles tiny little bublets and cover the canopy thoruoghly (and you mouth too!) and gives it a magnificent shine!

                        There actually is grit in gel toothpaste. The grit just has the same refractive index as the gel so you can't see it. I've used gel toothpaste to polish paint before.

                        Back in the 60's and 70's, before there were so many super, showcar polishes we have today; custom car painters ( 1:1 scale ) used a paste made from mixing corn starch and water for their final polishing for swirl removal. So that idea should work pretty well for polishing on our scale model paint jobs, windshields, and canopies.
