Fuse Wire

Where did you see that... maybe if we read it too it may give a better clue what they are talking about. If i had to venture a guess I am thinking they mean the thin wire that is in a low voltage fuse... the glass tube tyoe for radios etc. But where to get that...?????

In Australia a lot of older homes use fuse wire type fuses in the fusebox (new term now is meterbox) that controls all the electrical circuits in the house. If there is a power surge (we use 240V current here) the fuse wire burns out preventing circuit damage. It is easy to switch the house power off and replace the burned out fuse wire.

It is a boon to modellers here, being inexpensive (sub AU$2) for a packet with 2 resistance rated spools. I have used it for brakes lines, elec cables in fuselages and various other uses.

If I'm understanding you right, then fuse wire is a fine wire like what is found in lamp cord wire and even T.V. antenna wire. I use the fine wire from both antenna wire and from old lamp cords for a number of things. It's great to make a small loop on one end and use it to apply small amounts of CA glue.Also I've used it for aircraft antennas, hydraulic lines in wheel wells and on struts.I could go on and on.Hope this helps.

Sounds a similar thing. Fuse wire is rated at low resistance so it fails when a surge occurs.

Myriad of uses can be held for this stuff. I need to get some more. So a trip out to the hardware shop for me today!

Go to Radio Shack and ask for the three pack of magnet wire. This is the stuff and will keep you in fine wire for the rest of your life. Three different sizes and lots of it.
