shimming clear parts
Posted by ckfredrickson on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 12:41 PM
I'm almost to the point where I'm going to be putting the canopy and windows into my current build. The problem: the canopy fit isn't the greatest, and I cut the holes too large when hollowing out some additional windows.

I'd like to shim the parts, as opposed to trying to fill the gaps with putty, but I'm worried about the glue fogging up the clear parts. So, what's the best way to go about doing this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

if the holes aren't visibly noticable as being too big, have you thought about using clear glue (like Testors clear glue) to fill the slight gaps, its drys clear and create 'windows'.

I agree with Waikong on this one. I use Krystal Klear routinely to close gaps around ill fitting canopies. You can also use styrene strips to fill in oversize window ports. No putty involved. Just cut the strips, install (CA) the blanks and sand to the best profile, test fitting the clear parts incrementally until you get it.
