A lot of people use it to clean the masking gunk off of canopies with no ill effects. As canopies are a form of plastic (I think, so don't quote me), it should work. You don't need to soak the plastic in the Goo Gone, just wipe on and wipe off.
The Castrol Super Clean seems like a great idea and it's readily available.
