Resin prep?
Posted by klem on Saturday, July 16, 2005 2:50 PM
I know this is an old subject but I need the advice anyway.Ive never really worked with resin components before. Whats the best way to prep the resin as far as washing and priming? Is priming necesarry, I was planning on using Model Master Acrly colors for this model. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on this subject. Thank youBig Smile [:D]

The resin needs to be cleaned before any painting to remove mold release compound. I always prime resin with Floquil Grey primer.

Clean resin by soaking it in denaturated alcohol. Prime with any type of light gray paint.

I wash with dishwashing liquid to remove the release agent and finger oils. I don't prime all resin but do wipe it down with some diluted wh. vinegar which gives it the very least little bit of tooth. I model small (1/87) scale and even a light coat of primer can lose a lot of detail. Only caution is to make sure it is thouroughly dry before shooting. I don't prefer acrylics for resin however. My first choice would be a lacquer. Just my opinion.?.

Is just soaking the resin enough to clean it, or do I need to do anything else to prep it?

A little light scrubbing with a soft bristle toothbrush can't hurt.
