anybody want to know how to do awesome weathering?

I have discovered an awesome way to do weathering on aircraft models. I use artist's watercolor paints. They work great for washes, various streaks ad stains, and loads of other stuff! All you need to do is put a drop of dishwashing detergent in to get rid of the surface tension (otherwise it blotches up and looks like crap, ask me how I knowWink [;)]). I started using this technique about 3 years ago, and I'm still using the same set of paints! The application techniques are about the same as using oils, except it dries faster, and you can get a lot more subtlety. best of all, a warm, damp, (and sometimes soapy) paper towel will fix just about any mistake. The only problem I have had is that the paint doesn't seem to like to come off decals (again, ask me how I knowWink [;)]).

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

hey jaypack, try clear coating your model first, set to dry, then apply your watercolor wash, after that you won't have problems with the w.paint sticking on decals. Happy modeling

thanks for that little bit. I just recently found out that if you lightly brush over the entire model with a damp paper towel, the paint tends to cover a little better. also, it helps to undercoat your model with clear flat before you weather it.Big Smile [:D]
