Here is what I've got in mind now that I've had time to think bout what I want to do.
1) add the outline for the door on bulkheads. I've cut up a margarine tub lid (the lip has a thin groove in it) (I found the outer lip is the right width for a 1/48 scale clipboard)Tongue [:P] I figure I'll attach this with my testors glue, let it set over night then sand it & raid my "spares" box.
2) I have some extra kit panels & resin scraps of equipment plus, copper & aluminum wiring laying around.
Oh hey, if ya notice a "strange scent" in the air,... it's just what's left of my brain cells!!Wink [;)]Laugh [(-D]Whistling [:-^]

You're welcome. Good luck with the build. Don't worry about what you will/will not see when it is done. I am currently scratchbuilding a full interior for a piece of armour that will only be visible by 1/3 but I will know it's all there.

I know, that's part of modeling! Just take pics to show it offWink [;)] I've seen some reviews on the B-17g that got me to thinkin' on this subject. I'm awaiting the open bomb bay & crew access doors along with the flaps to arrive from Paragon Designs. I ordered them the other day.
Thanks for your kind attention & advice.

Thanks Gregory for this bit of info. I realize the bomb bay, once installed will block alot of one's view of the bulkheads and, since this is my first attempt at "being creative" I figured I'd ask for some help on ideas. I'm dense at timesBlush [:I] I'll see if I can't find the books you mentioned . Thanks!

Eddie:

Use the kit parts as templates for cutting new bulkheads from sheet styrene. You will need to add the necessary details that are roughly shown on the kit parts like the doorways etc.

If you want to have the doorway open you can cut it out and build a door from styrene and show it in the open position. For the wiring harnesses and fuseboxes etc. you can make these out of thicker styrene either sheet or shaped styrene will work for this. For the wiring connections use either thin gauge wire or solder. For the other details in the area you can either make the necessary parts or find pieces for other sources (kids toys, spares box, fellow modeller etc.)

A reference I would suggest you pick up is the Osprey Series of modelling manuals Basic Aircraft Modelling and Advanced Aircraft Modelling these were originally released under the Compendium Publishing name. They're excellent books to have.

Secondly there was an article in FSM not to long ago on superdetailing a B-17 (Check the article list) As well you may want to grab a copy of the modelling Warbirds special issue from last year it has excellent articles as well on a B-17 superdetail project.

Let me know if you need more reference or more detailed instruction.

Sorry about that. I am inneed of instructions on how to "cover up" the kits bulkheads & give it some detail (part # 17 & 19) (I'm working on the R/M #5600) As for references, I have plenty. Just not the knwledge of how to accomplish the task.Sad [:(] here's a good example of what I'm asking:
http://www.modelingmadness.com/reviews/allies/us/brunob17.htm
about 1/2 way down are good pics of the "fore & aft" bulkheads. Not too fancy.
thanks, Eddie

Hey y'all, I'm considering scratch building some parts for my 1/48 B-17G. Namely the bulkheads (#4 &5) in the Bomb bay which I want to add some detail to since the Bomb Bay will be displayed open,
Thanks for your help!
