What kind of wash????
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 10:46 PM
I know an enamel-based wash works over an acrylic base coat, but what kind of wash can I use over an enamel base coat. I was told with an acrylic-based wash it is hard to remove the excess (not very hard to believe), and it may damage the base coat in the hassel of getting the excess wash off. My question is what type of wash will work over an enamel base coat??

Thanks in Advance,

I use artist's watercolours in tubes, mixed with water, a drop of dishwashing liquid and a bit of white vinegar.

Thanks. I'll try that. Should I seal it with future first? Probably.
Thanks again,

Yes. Seal with future first, it will be MUCH easier to remove the excess.

I'm sure Derek is not talking rubbish here, but honestly, I've never sealed with Future in-between enamels and a water-based wash, nor between acrylics ans a water-based wash. Go easy with the wash at first. If you're not happy, add a second wash, maybe a third. The reason I do not want to use Future is that it leaves a certain shine and I do not care much for that on my AFVs. That's exactly why I do use this water based wash 'cause I know it will NOT react with anything under.
