I you use something that is low-tack ("sticky-ness"), such as post it notes, it can be done. Experiment with it first. Cover some other kit part (inside of a wing, part from a kit you won't build, unused part, etc.) that resembles the surface you are trying to mask, and paint it similarly (same # of coats of paint & sealer). If you use a large area for testing this, you can try different materials to find what works best for you. I usually use drafting tape or post it notes. You can reduce the "tack " on a piece of tape by applying/removing it from your skin, but the results are less consistent. Hope this helps !

Hey csmall,
You could also use "non porose" surgical tape(3M). It too has a low tack plus it can conform to most shapes.
Just check out your local hospital supply store for this tape.
Either way you would not go wrong.
Flaps up, Mike
