                        Best way to remove old glue?

                        Whilst digging through the attic some time ago I found 3 of my old 1/32 scale WWII fighters from Revell. (Mustang, Corsair and a Warhawk) I'd like to restore them but they were constructed during my "tube of glue per model" phase. I started with the Corsair and have managed to get the Wasp disassembled with minimal damage but there is glue in the cooling fins and the rest of the model is, shall we say, very well put together. Is there any thing out there that can remove 20 year old glue that won't melt polystyrene or have I just found three new additions to my parts box?

                        you may try casterol's "purple cleaner" found @ "wally world" or any auto part store. this is good for paint removal as well. prehaps the old glue is brittle enough it will come off.if not you will have to carefully scrape it off with a hobby knife etc.i have rehabed alot of my old revell ships & i have had to scratch build replacement parts so it can be done .just go slowly and save the old parts .there are alot of materials out there that can be used tobuild these parts.good luck

                        Try throwing the whole thing in the freezer for a day. The pieces should just *pop* apart after that!

                        Mineral spirits can be used to weaken an old tube glue joint, but test it first - I have had old kit plastic get very brittle after applying it.

                        I guess I coud use a saw but I think a credit card would work better. Just hand it to the man at the counter and ask for a new kit. Wink [;)]

                        I'll try the freezer trick tonight, (if they'll fit) not to see if it works, I just want to see my wife's reaction...

                        I'm always putting the cereal in the fridge and milk in the pantry.

                        -must be the paint fumes...

                        The freezer worked! Stuff did in fact pop off. Never heard of that. Thanks for the help.

                        ...now if I can just get that fishstick smell out of the cockpit...
