Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 18, 2003 12:29 PM
Ive read about so many people using acrylic rod for displaying their aircraft in flight. Where in the heck are they getting these? Ive looked all over. craft shops , hardware stores, even Home Depot. But noone even knows what it is. Can anyone tell me where i can get this stuff or even know what its originally used for? Myabe I need to hire Inspector Gadget?

Your probably better to go straight to plastic supply shops for such an item.

If you can find a plastic supplier that deals in Plexiglas, Lexan or Lucite (all acrylic plastics) they should be able to help you.

I've never gone after such an item myself, but when I talk to some other modelers who do use it, its plastic suppliers the talk about getting the stuff from.

Well, Colonial Photo and Hobby(a hobby shop here in Central Florida) sells thin clear acrylic rod. Acrylic rod is basically a fancy way of saying, "A stick of clear plastic". As I said, Colonial Photo and Hobby has it, and I bet those Home Depot guys will have it if next time you ask for "A stick of clear plastic".

Here is a URL for Plastruct, a company that sells different types of plastics for modeling purposes, i.e. architecture, vehicles, etc.:

You might try their local suppliers page to see if there is someone near you who carries their products; otherwise, I believe you can order directly from them.
