How to dip my 1/700 carrier in clear water???
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, September 26, 2003 11:30 AM
Is that i want to do a diorama with my carrier in "clear", so i can be able to see the hull below the water line, but i don't want to use those "acrylic" schemes, since i want to give some "movement" to the propellers...

What can i use to make the water and not harm the palstic of the model????

Thanks!!!

There is no problem with water reacting to plastic.only that it needs to be well insultated. You need to color the water somehow since it will look rather odd having "clear" water.

I'm confused...Ricardo, do you mean you want to put the carrier in REAL water, or do you want to somehow simulate it floating in water, but still be able to see the hull?
Can you be more specific about what an "acrylic scheme" is?
And what do you mean by propeller "movement?"

As Thyamis said, real water isn't a problem. Getting it to float upright might be, though!

The realilty of the situation is that with real ships you can't "see" below the waterline. The denisity of the water is too much. Even in the best of water conditions.

Otherwise I would suggest maybe a sheet of acyrlic painted transparent blue or lightly painted blue. But your hull opening would have to be very precise.

Yeah, you wouldn't be able to see below the waterline, unless it's cruising in the Bahamas! That's some mighty clear water down there. Took a cruise there once, and the ship looked like it was floating in the air!

I was going to suggest using an acrylic sheet as well, but I wasn't sure if that was the acrylic "scheme" that Ricardo wanted to avoid or not.

Until we hear back from Ricardo, I don't think we can offer any useful advice!
