Model Master Acrylics Help Needed
Posted by MECHTECH on Thursday, August 14, 2008 8:55 AM

Guys I have lately shifted to MMA paints as they are available and are easy clean up and I loved how MM Enamels turned out. But on an old Italeri Junkers Bomber from the Spanish Civil War I am trying to get a finish on, I find that when I mask using Paint mask tape, the under coat color is stripping off. The tape is for delicate paint jobs and other new paint (very low tack). I prewashed the model using dish soap.

And yes the paint was dry (24 Hrs).

Any ideas what else to try?  Dunce [D)]

I prime everything with cheap .99 cent gray primer from Walmart.  Now the problem I have with Model Master Acrylics is clogging the airbrush really bad.  Got so fustrated yesterday.Censored [censored]

Model Master Acrylic have a very low tack ability.  For a better tack, I would suggest Vallejo.  Most people claim that it is more expensive, but the price per ml makes it one of the cheapest paints on the market.  If yu choose to stay with MM Acrylis, then you must use a sealer.  Try Gunze which has a full line of spray sealers.  Or as an alternative, try Testors/Polly_S.

According to the FSM special the mag did awhile back, MM Acrylics ranked very high in resistance to masking problems and very high in coverage.  I use acrylics almost exclusively and have had very little trouble with masking or clogging.  I use a generic acrylic medium to thin my paints, (i found it hobby lobby) and testors acryl thinner/remover to clean up after.  The biggest down sides I have found in acrylics is they don't gloss like enamels or laquers and if you don't clean your airbrush properly it can take pliers to pull the needle out of the nozzle.  I have also found their aircraft/military range is more limited than enamels.  The other plus's are less toxicidity, easier clean up, less odor etc.
