Or, quite possibly this one.

Cool. Thanks for the chart.

How about Vietnam-era aircraft like the SPAD? ;-)

Guess I'll use MM enamel tan for the camo and hope it doesn't eat into the acrylic primer.

Here's the best color reference on the net.

If you're airbrushing, any paint over any other paint will work fine as long as the first color is dry. I've dont this for years.

Matching a WWI color may be as the song says like trying to catch the wind. All photos are black and white. In some cases, it's nearly impossible to match the right color in WWII pieces, even with color photos available.

That's what I was afraid of.

Not having a bare metal equivalent isn't a huge deal, as I have plenty of silver and metal MM enamels lying around, and the bare metal color is only needed for landing gear parts.

But I'm not sure what to do about the camo tan. There's a MM enamel tan, but I think mixing acrylics with enamels in the camo scheme is just inviting disaster, especially since I plan to prime the whole plane with Tamiya's light grey.

Hm.

Is there another brand of acrylic that has the shade of tan I'm looking for? Or am I screwed? Or should I just abandon Tamiya's acrylics, go back to my trusty MM enamels, and hope I can find a Tamiya-to-MM conversion chart somewhere?

Thanks!

If you're painting with Tamiya paints, you have to settle for the horseshoe philosophy: "close only counts in horseshoes (and Tamiya paint)." Tamiya paints are not matched to any standard.

Hey, guys:

I'm about to build the Tamiya SPAD using Tamiya acrylics, and need help with some of their specified colors--

1. Bare Metal Silver (AS-1) - Apparently used for some of the gear strut parts. "AS" designates their line of spray can paints (which I don't need, since I have an AB), but they don't seem to have bare metal silver in bottle form (???). I'm not going to try to figure out why. What color should I use instead?

2. USAF Green (AS-13) for camo - Again, spray can, so I'm ***-u-me-ing that it's OK to substitute their XF-5 Flat Green in a bottle....?

3. USAF Tan (AS-15) for camo - Spray can, so I need something in a bottle. I see that Tamiya has Flat Deck Tan and Wooden Tan in bottles, but those aren't suitable substitute colors for the camo scheme. Any suggestions? This one has me stumped.

4. USAF Light Grey (AS-16) - Once again, a spray can, so I'm ***-u-me-ing that it's OK to substitute their XF-66 Flat Light Grey in a bottle...?

Thanks!
