Phil,

Thank you for your quick reply.
I appreciate that this is a matter of practice, yet it is comforting with some quick advice :)
Yes it is a gravity feed.

I will follow your suggestions and start with reducing the pressure, I was not comfortable with the way the Tamiya Red Brown behaved when thinned 50-50.

Very Best Regards

Hi Johan,

Is your H&S Evolution a gravity feed brush?

A change in equipment usually entails a learning curve, and in some cases, when you're used to a particular setup, a certain amount of unlearning.

You're probably using pressure settings and thinning ratios that you're used to using with your old equipment.  With the ability to reduce the air pressure, you'll find that you have a lot more control. The only thing is, it takes a little practice to achieve it. If you're used to using propel cans, you're used to having to work from a certain distance to prevent paint runs etc. Dialing down the air pressure will allow you to get closer. Getting closer means you can get sharper demarcations. However, lower pressure also means you need to thin your paint a little more. Thinner paint means increased risk of runs.

Try the following (not all at once, one change at a time to explore the differences):

  • Reduce your pressure to about 15PSI
  • Thin your paint more - try 2 parts thinner to 1 part paint
  • Use a lighter touch on the trigger and get up close and personal

Then:

  • Practice
  • Practice
  • Practice

Getting used to it

Hi all,

I am trying to familiarize myself with some new hardware and right now I am not happy with the results.

Check out the misty look, I am using a H&S Evolution AB (double acytion), Tamiya Acrylics thinned 50-50 and the pressure is set to 20 PSI.

I am moving from a noname double action AB and gas cans.

And please don't get me wrong, I am not blaming the hardware :)

Very Best Regards
Johan
