Air Compressor problem
Posted by Anthonyb on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 8:43 PM
My Paasche DA400R overheated and it triggered the auto shut off to protect the motor.  I am here an hour later, it has cooled and the compressor will not start, all it does is buzz.  Did I blow the fuse, and if so where is it?  I feel like an idiot as I can't find the fuse on such a small device...

Did the auto-shutoff work before it quited? I mean, did the motor turned off whenever you are NOT spraying? If not, the auto-shutoff is defective and the cause of overheating. I thought that you found out about the 3-way switch and solved your problem from the earlier post. After all, you need to send it back to the dealer. What a bump.

I wonder whether the newer DA400R is inferior to the older model which was made in Taiwan? My DA400 does NOT have a reset switch, but never got overheat either. It is only slightly warm to the touch even after long airbrushing session.

The auto shut-off was working, it would turn on and off as I was using the brush.  But according to the instructions it has a thermal overload protector and that is what was triggered this time.   Now all it does is buzz whenI turn it on. very frustrating...

I would just request an RMA from the dealer and return the compressor. The compressor should not have overheated if the auto-on/off is working. The manual has this description of the thermal protection feature:

THERMAL PROTECTOR

The motor of this compressor has a thermal overload protector. If the motor should overheat, the overload protector will shut off the motor. If this should occur, unplug the compressor and allow the motor to cool (approx. 5 minutes), remove excess load and restart compressor. If the compressor fails to start, check for blown fuses. The compressor may need to cool further before attempting to restart. If the overload protector shut off the motor frequently you may have a low voltage situation.

Since the thermal protector is part of the motor and the only way to reset it is to unplug the unit. When it does not restart, there is not much to do. Again, it should not overheat in normal use. I will not keep this unit if it overheats for no obvious reason. Mine will not even get hot to the touch. Good luck in getting a quick solution to your problem.

Yes, I have come to the conclusion that the best idea is to return it.  Disappointing, as it delays my project as long as it takes them to send a new one...  thanks for the help!
