Please give me a sanity check here...
I'm not trying to ask which is better overall. It seems to me that each might work best in certain situations.
Glosscote/Dullcote is laquer. It would seem to me that if I'm applying a laquer paint (like Alclad or whatever), I should use these to provide a topcoat to seal decals and my weathering (dusting pastels). I've used these for years and not paying attention to whether my basecoat was laquer, enamel or acrylic, I haven't had any issues. Maybe I've just been lucky? Maybe I've just been good about letting the lower layer dry a few days first?
Future is acrylic, so it would seem to me that I should use this over my flat Testors ModelMaster acrylics to give me a glossy surface to apply my decals, then use it again (mixed with Tamiya X21 flat base if flat is desired) to topcoat my decals and weathering.
So I'm still not sure which would be the better topcoat to use on enamels, although I don't use them much anymore.
So does this make sense? Is it prudent to worry about this or am I overthinking it?
Thanks for your advice!
