I agree with Chris. Priming is for checking for any final flaws prior to shooting the color coat, and for giving tooth for the color coat to adhere to. You could theoretically prime with any color, but white, and light to medium grays are probably the best, IMHO. I kinda think the priming color should be based on what your color coat is going to be. Floquil's reefer white, and any of the Testor's or Tamiya flats would be good.
