Advice Needed...possible paint line change.
Posted by ScrubbyMonkey on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 10:27 AM

Hello all,

I just need a bit of advice.  Currently I use Model Master Acryl and Tamiya Acrylic paints, run through an Iwata Eclipse SBS.  My problem is that I have some reservations with both paint lines.

I love spraying Tamiya but sourcing it locally and reliably can be a bit difficult.  Also, I feel that the color range is a bit limited.

I like MM Acryl's color selection, but have reservations about the durabilities of the paint and coverage.

I have given a thought to using Vallejo, but have no experience using them and would like to know if there are any reliable sources in the Detroit area (I'm in North Oakland County).

Now that I have a spray booth, I was giving a thought to switching over to enamels, but I like the ease of cleaning with acrylics.

So, my question is, what are your thoughts on the brand of paints you use, acrylic and enamel, and why?  For those Vallejo users out there that have also used Tamiya and MM Acryl, was the switch worth it, and why?  Also, I've had some trouble determining what volume the Vallejo paints come in.

Any help is appreciated...I model on a tight budget, and just need some advice before I go plunking down cash on a new line of paint.   I'm sure this subject has been done to death, but after looking extensively through the forum and searching the web, my information has thus far been inconclusive.

I have never had a problem of any kind with Polly Scale acrylics—in fact I've never seen a better paint of any kind (and I used to work in the coatings industry.)

Tamiya is also an old favorite.

Haven't tried Vallejo, but I've never seen or heard anything bad about them.

Hawkeye's Talon for metal acrylics—wonderful stuff, IMHO.

Remember: YMMV
