Hey Joe, I'll get with you at the next meeting, but it sounds like you might have the wrong needle/tip combo in the first issue [no paint on fine tip / drip on large].

For the secodn issue with the tamiya paint, sounds like it might be the compressor.  That silent one I picked up online only flows about 20psi, but its not constant.  And I cannot seem to get it to work right with the 150.  The new compressor I picked up can flow a max of 45psi, but it is CFM. I got it at Harbor Freight down off Army Post.  They ahve two versions, its quiet, and very nice.

As for the third issue with the paint flowing back into the cup, I get it too.  The thing is, there is a small alcove, if you will, inside the 150.  The paint collects there, and even spraying through thinner doesnt get it all.  So when you cut the air flow, gravity kicks in and the thinner/paint flows back into the cup.  thats why I recommend a thorough cleaning after every use.  something I dont usually do, and now I have to order some parts for my 150.

See ya tomorrow night.

If your compressor provides 18 psi at sufficient airflow (CFM), you should do much better than you described. You usually need more power from the compressor when using a syphon feed airbrush. You may need to get a better compressor or switch to a gravity feed AB such as the Badger 100LG.

Wait a little, Mike V will come to help you with his assessment.

Badger 150 question
Posted by LeopardMan on Thursday, October 30, 2008 11:25 PM

I just recently switched from an Aztec 4709 to a Badger 150. It is the setwith 3 needles but in my stupidity I didn't notice that I have F,F,L instead of F,M,L. Now to my problem. Iwas using the fine tip but I can get barely any paint out of it. I only get a little bit a a time when I pull the trigger. Then I release the trigger and pull again and a bit of paint comes out. When I switched to the large needle I got big drops coming out.

I tried to spray Tamiya Acrylic about 50/50 thinned at about 18psi ( thats all my compressor gives me). When I clean I use pipe cleaners and q-tips soaked with paint thinner. And I used the little metal cup instead of the syphon cup. I also noticed that when I spray clean thinner through from a syphon cup that even after it sprays almost clear that paint backs up into the syphon cup. I have to admit that I am at a loss as what to do.
