Clear acrylic on canopies
Posted by Specter65 on Saturday, November 8, 2008 12:48 AM
I've heard of folks using Future floor finish to improve canopies and am interested in alternatives.  As far as I know, isn't Future basically an acrylic finish.  I have some Model Master Clear Gloss Acrylic paint and was wondering if it could be used the same way.  I want to improve the look of an aircraft canopy that had some scratches which I polished out with some MicroMesh 8000 grit polishing cloth and which now has a slightly hazy look to it now.
The future will soon be a thing of the past.

Yep, clear gloss will work just fine. Maybe even better, since it's not formulated to be put on floors? Anyway, I've used clear gloss acrylic from Tamiya and it worked great. Future is much less expensive though.

Future is, as already stated, acrylic BASED (mesning it is essentially a clear acrylic).  The different manufacturer clear gloss acrylics are, more or less, pure acrylic, but will acheive the same effect.  The benefit from using Futer is that it cost so much less, by volume, so you can put some in a container, dip the clear part(s), and either save or dispose the Future.  I've used both Future and the Testors, for different things, and think that both are important.

I have used Future to make instrument bezels on a model or two, and haven't used Testor's for the same thing, but they should work for that also.  They are, insofar as model building goes, interchangeable.  Want to diip the parts (say, an auto windshield)? Use Future.  Want to use it in an AB or brush it on, or gloss an area for decals?  Use either one.

My opinions and experiences.
