inexpensive model paints

Check out the craft paint at our local Micheals store. It is acrylic, heavy pigmented and drys flat. It can be shot through an airbrush if thinned with water and a little airbrush medium to smooth it out. No odor nor overspray. It comes in more colors that you could every use. The best part it is about $1 per bottle. Bottles are plastic squeeze type with flip lids. Use it right from the bottle with a brush, minimal brush strokes. Some popular colors that are off the shelf are tans for flight suits, blues for Navy airfraft, greens for chromate, just about any color or shade you need. They mix well with each other. Great white for tinting. Try them, can't miss.

Are those the "Folk Art" acrylics?  Always wondered about those.  I always shy away from 'em since they seem so thick.  Would take like a 80/20 mix to get them to spray I would think...  Good to know though, especially for basecoating or something like that.

 Walmart sells these too.

How's durability? I used to use similar paints years ago (raiding my mom's craft room with her permission) and found that they chipped easily. That was along time ago though and I'm sure they improved since then.

Heres a little secret for you guys. These craft paints thin beautifully for airbrushing and this method also addresses any durability problems. Thin these with.... wait for it.... Future!

Thats right, the miracle floor polish makes these spray beautifully. Of course you will still need to flat coat the model but it will be ready for decaling. So actually you would skip a step of gloss coat to decal then flat to dull things back down.

Interesting... I can get everything I need at my local WallyWorld

I'm going to have to try this...

Now the question is, how can I match colors...
