How do I mask acrylics??

I'm using MM acryls for the first time. Any sort of masking tape just pulls the paint off. How do I mask over acrylics and how can I avoid this problem in the future?? Do I need to prime the surface? If so, with what??
One good hour working on a model erases 8 bad hours at work!!
