Humbrol Clear Varnish question

A few days ago I did some airbrushing of Humbrol Matte and Satin clear varnishes on two seperate items. This was my first time using these two products for topcoats. Humidity was low and temps were in the mid 60s. In both cases I thinned heavily (roughly 3 parts thinner to 1 part clear) with Testors MM airbrush thinner (with which I have always had excellent results with Humbrol enamel paints). In both cases I got "frosting" along panel lines, etc when the top coat dried and cured. I can probably cover the frosting with heavy washes/weathering so I am gonna work in that direction to cover the results... but. Needless to say I am quite unhappy. Has anyone here used these products and had similar results? Did I thin them too much?
