Well guys the debate is over, my dad just happened to have an industrial squirrel cage type blower rated at 1000 cfm. Even better the thing is almost silent when it runs. Only bad thing about it is the weight, I will have to reinforce the blower on the back of the spray booth and I will have to use something like caulk to get a good seal, but thats no big deal. Best part the blower output is the proper diameter for air exhaust vent tubing.

Anyone have advice on squirrel cage blolwers?

I did some searching and found this:

The discussion recommends a bathroom exhaust fan along with Jim's solution.

Hi Rick

Sorry about responding so late. I will go to H.D or Lowes to get my filters. Just a basic filter to trap larger paint particles. The Booth base will be sized  according to availble filter sizes.

Hi Jim,

Any recommendations on where to find this type of filter?  Internet vendors you'd recommend?

Thanks, Rick

I plan on building a spray booth this winter and will use a 12 volt marine bilge blower. They are inexpensive($25-$35) and are rated around 250-275 cfm and are explosion proof. If used with a downdraft design I think it should work decently.

Have a look at this article:

It will help you calculate your specific fan/exhaust requirements. It's a long read, but it's well worthwhile.

I am thinking of building a spray booth, and wanted some input. I am planning on building a 1.5' x 2' booth with a down draft system. I know I am going to use plexiglass for the shell and a top mounted (external) florescent light, my major question is what do you guys think about using computer casefans, I have read everyones posts about fans and havent really got much input on this type of fan, here is a link to what I am looking at:

http://www.xoxide.com/yate-loon-140mm-d14sm-12.html

I am planning to put filters in the bottom (obliviously) with a channel leading to the back where the fans will be, I dont have a way to duct the air outside, my main goal here is just to get some filtration (better than breathing all the fumes). I look forward to your input, I will also provide diagrams soon.
