Compressor/Airbrush compatibility
Posted by Coldsteel6d on Thursday, January 1, 2009 2:16 PM

I just got myself a deal on an Iwata Silver Jet and was wondering if it is compatible with most airbrushes. Specifically the Badger 155. From what I hear the Badger 155 is a real good bang for your buck airbrish.

This is the first compressor I have bought so I am just wanting to make sure that everything will fit before I go out and get the airbrush.

Thanks for the help.

The compressor itself supplies air and couldn't care less (if it had feelings, that is) what airbrush is attached. What you do need is a compatible air HOSE with the correct fittings. Find out what fitting is on the compressor and make sure you get a hose. Most likely it will be 1/4" NPT Male fitting.

Whomever sells you the airbrush should be able to tell you which hose is correct. Badger makes a nice braided hose with a female 1/4" NPT fitting and a female 1/8" fitting that attaches to the 155. If you opt for their vinyl hose, you will need a 1/4" NPT to 1/8" adapter. All of which should be available from your airbrush vendor.

The 155 is a really good airbrush, but my personal preference is gravity fed. I have three different kinds: Badger 100LG (Large cup Gravity fed), 150 (siphon), both of which are dual action and a 200-20 single action (siphon). I find the gravity fed to be easier to use and less wasteful of paint. If I were to start over I would take a look at Badger's new Renegade Velocity airbrush.

So long folks!

Thanks a lot.

That was all of the information I was looking for. I will check into those other airbrushes. I just wanted to know if there were different connectors for the hose and now I know what to look for.
