JW's Right Step matte varnish
Posted by Killjoy on Saturday, February 14, 2009 12:48 AM

Hello all!

I am not sure if it was on this forum that I first heard about JW's right step, but I thought I'd share my experience with it.

First, this is a water based acrylic varnish for artists.  When you open the bottle, you'll need to stir it well, as the dulling agent settles, and if you brush it on as is, it comes out kinda satin.

I shot it through my Badger 155 anthem mixed 50/50 with distilled water, at 15 psi.  It was applied over black auto air paint, and Tamiya flat brown with golden's sienna highlights.

It sprayed very well, atomized cleanly, and I was able to spray the entire project, which is a 1 foot long, 8 inch tall puma perched on a tree branch, without any tip dry or clogging.

I layed down 2 medium coats, and it dried almost instantly.  It went on dead flat, but clear as a bell and did not change my highlights a bit.

Clean up was with windex, followed by more distilled water.  Thjis stuff has almost no smell, and is way easier to use than any rattle can varnish I have shot in the past!

Just wanted to pass it on!
