Spraying Pressures
Posted by troutbum on Friday, March 27, 2009 1:57 AM

Hi all,

I've just purchased a compressor for my airbrush and would like to know what pressurre (in psi) I should be using to spray aircraft and armour models.

Regards

It may vary depending on the type of airbrush you wish to use (eg. gravity feed vs siphion feed) and the type of paint and how thin your paint is.

For a ballpark setting, start around 12-15 PSI for a gravity feed brush and 18-20 PSI for a siphon feed and adjust as required. (You should be able to vary these ranges by up to +/- 2 PSI for different effects/requirements)

Dean,

If you have a good internal mix airbrush, Phil_H gave you a good starting point. You can adjust his suggestions up to find out what pressure gives you the best atomization with your airbrush.

If you get an external mix airbrush, the pressure range is more likely to be 25-40 psi. Again, experiment until you get the fine, even spray from hairline to 1" wide lines.
