I like Polly S Plastic Prep or regular old Iso Prop Alcohol.  A less caustic then Methylated spirits.

It will work fine as a "wipe-down" before painting.

However, don't use it over Tamiya Liquid Surface primer or you will have a bad day. Tamiya LSP is "lacquer" based, but is soluble in methylated spirits. Mr Surfacer doesn't seem to be affected though.

Pre-paint cleaning?

Is Methylated spirits suitable as a pre-paint clean up on models prior to paint?

I know its good at melting away Tamiya acrylic & doesn't damage plastic & wondered if I could use it to clean / de-grease before painting? I realise that most of you use washing up liquid (simple green) & water, but I would prefer to wipe as opposed to immerse?

 Any advice much appreciated.
