Iwata airbrush help (incompatible air hose)....
Posted by Porkbits on Thursday, April 16, 2009 3:43 PM
Hey, guys:

I just bought an Iwata Eclipse, and of course its fitting isn't compatible with the the air hose I currently own (for my Badger). I love when manufacturers do this. No, really.

In any event, do I now also have to go online and buy some kind of Iwata-to-Badger hose adapter and wait another week for delivery of the part, or can I find a compatible generic adapter at my local hardware store, and save time and money?

Thanks!

PB

PS--I do have a Medea-branded braided air hose, but but it has large connectors on either end. So the hose attaches to my compressor fine, but I have no way to attach the Iwata airbrush to either this hose, or the hose I use with my Badger airbrush. So in sum: two hoses, one Iwata airbrush, no way to attach airbrush to either hose. =[

The Iwata Eclipse use the standard 1/8" thread on its airbrush. So almost any airhost you get, except the Badger, will fit.

You can get the Iwata hose at Hobby Lobby which is only $12 using the 40% coupon. Alternatively, the Habor Freight also have a braided airbrush hose with 1/8" on one end for $7.

If you are keeping the old Badger airbrush, it may be a good idea to buy the quick disconnect and buy an extra male for the Badger.

Thanks, Keilau.

So this 10' Medea braided hose I have, even though it's from the same company that makes Iwata airbrushes (presumably), can't be used with the Eclipse unless I *also* buy an adapter for one end. Sigh.

In any event, do you have a link for the Iwata hose on Hobby Lobby? I tried a search on the site, but didn't turn up anything. But maybe I didn't search well enough, or used the wrong site...?

Cheers,
PB

The Iwata-Medea airhose sold at Hobby Lobby mates the Iwata airbrush threads.

Iwata-Medea may also make other airhose for the Badger AB, but I don't know anything about it. As I said before, the Iwata thread is pretty universal.

Some other member may be able to tell you what is special about the Badger connection threads. Are you keeping both AB's?

Yeah, I'm gonna keep the Badger 360. I like it, but the paint cup is teeny tiny and hard to work with, which is why I bought the HP-CS, which has a much larger cup.

So apparently I have the wrong Iwata-Medea air hose--it's the BT-050, which has 1/2" fittings on BOTH ends. I need the BT-010, which has the 1/2" fitting AND the smaller fitting which connects to the airbrush.

Money wasted, lesson learned.

Did you search for "Iwata"? The airhose link.

Alas, the price went up since I purchased mine last year. It is $25 now.

Ooooooooooh, that's why I couldn't find the hose. By "Hobby Lobby" you meant Crafts, Inc. I think they're affiliated, but not sure. In any event, I was using the wrong sites (there are two other Hobby Lobbys--one of which is an RC vehicle seller)

Thanks for the link....

I think the hose in the above linke is ths one I have.

It fits both my Iwata and Paasche.

I think Badger just wants to be difficult so you have to buy their product.

As metioned I would set up your compressor and hoses with the quick connect for ease of swapping out brushes, it also makes it easier for removing them for cleaning.

Yeah, the problem is two-fold: 1) My current Badger hose isn't compatible with Iwata airbrushes (at least not without an adapter), and 2) the braided Iwata hose that I bought yesterday at Dick Blick isn't compatible with my....Iwata AB. Unless I buy an adapter. Sigh.

But #2 is my own fault, as in my rush to shop yesterday, I didn't look closely at the Iwata hose fittings (it has 1/2" fittings on both ends). Why anyone would want to buy this hose (other than by mistake, like me), I have no idea.

I just went to my local hardware store and found an 1/4" - 1/8" adapter. Problem solved.

NOPE, that hose will fit 1/8th threading.

Iwata, Richpen, PercisionAire,Sata graph and a few others brands that escape me right now, all use 1/8 threads.

Paasche and Badger both use smaller threading. I posted some samples below.

Here are 3 different threaded AB's. My Talon, PercisionAire, and Badger 175. All thread sizes are different.

The Paasche and hose.

The Paasche hose is too small for the 1/8 PercisionAire fitting.

The badger 175 and bager hose.

The badger hose is too small for the 1/8 threads.

Paasche and Badger are both unique in their thread fit size.
