Or, the more dangerous (and some would argue useless) version is this...

- turn the can upside down and set it in a corner. Put a heavy weight on it so that the nozzle gets depressed (or rig up a long clamp or something that will hold the nozzle open)
- a bit of paint will come out, but eventually it will just start expelling the gas. (can has to be upside down...)
- leave it overnight. shake the can up every now and then to stir up the gases again and re-prop it upsided down to let all the gases out again.
- once you are TOTALLY sure all of the gas/pressure is out of the can, drill a hole in the side and pour the contents out into a jar. Be aware that sometimes the tip can clog and make you *think* the pressure is gone...

I've done it. It's possible, but arguably not neccessary. Swanny's version works just fine and has much fewer 'safety' issues...

I use a drinking straw held over the busness end of the spray nozzle. Hold the other end into a small cup and press the button. I do not decant more than I need at the time - why should I? The can does a great job of storage and I can shake it to remix the paint when I need more. If you decant a lot into a small jar and seal it, when you shake the jar the paint will release gases just like soda pop and when you open the jar - surprise!

What does decant mean?
To pour off gently, as liquor, so as not to disturb the
sediment; or to pour from one vessel into another; as, to
decant wine.

HEY,
Sorry if this sounds silly, but what does decant mean?

what's the best way to decant from the can and are there any other process involved? I heard that if you bottle up the paint too soon it may be very messy when you open the bottle.
TIA
