Paasche Airbrush Question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 8:04 PM
While using my Paasche H airbrush last night I had a problem spraying from a bottle. I am using Tamiya acrylics thinned 2-1 paint thinner ans a pressure about 20 psi. It was my first time trying to freehand a camo scheme on a plane (came out ok for a first try) but on one of my sprays the paint would't come out. I checked the airbrush with a bottle of Isopropal Alcohol and it sprayed fine but nothing from the bottle. Tried cleaning out the tube and still nothing. My question is can those Bottle caps be taken apart so the internals can be looked at and cleaned or do you have to try cleaning with a long thin pipe cleaner?

First thing I'd look at is the breather hole in the top of the bottle assembly, make sure that it is clear and in allignment with the second hole beneath it. As far as checking if the actual lid assembly is plugged up ... just blow through it. If it allows easy airflow, nothing is wrong there.

Shermanfreak hit the nail on the head. If that vent hole in the bottle cap becomes plugged the paint will not flow out of the airbrush very well at all. If the siphon tube in the bottle is plugged then it is best to run a pipe cleaner or an airbrush cleaning brush soaked in the appropriate thinner down that tube. After cleaning it with the pipe cleaner then get an eye dropper and fill it with thinner and spray it down the tube of the bottle, or put some thinner in the bottle and put the eye dropper into the opening at the top of the bottle and squeeze the eye dropper bulb and release it, back and forth moving thinner in and out of the eye dropper which will flush it.

They hit the nail on the head with the breather hole, however; just to be on the safe side make sure the paint is mixed thoroughly and the tip and nozzle are free of any clogs. Acrylics tend to clog the Paasche H fast. Good luck!
