HELP! Airbrushing Testors and Polly Scale Paints
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 20, 2003 8:04 PM
I am trying to airbrush Testors and Polly Scale acrylics through my new Badger 100LG double action airbrush with a medium tip (this is essentially a gravity feed version of Badger's 150 double action airbrush). I'm having problems with the paint drying and gumming up the tip - I've tried different thinners and various pressures on my compressor, all with very limited success. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Tip dry is common on airbrushes especially with acrylic paints as they dry so fast by nature.
Some people use a flow agent in the paint to help keep it occuring less.
I just get in the habit of constantly picking the paint off the needle tip with my index and thumb nails as I shoot air through the airbrush, and then go back to painting. Others use a Q-tip soaked in the appropriate thinner and push it into the tip of the needle and clean it that way.
The Q-tip's with the hollow plastic stem work best for that if you can find them.
I don't know if Polly S paints are very good at being airbrushed as I have only heard people liking them for brush painting mainly. I have yet to try them through an airbrush so I can't speak from experience.

Polly Scale and Polly S are very different formulations from the same maker. Polly Scale is excellent for both airbrushing and brush painting. They are my favorite paint out of all the different paints I use. Polly S has been discontinued by now.

My mistake. Big Smile [:D]
I read through that too quickly and assumed Polly S was what he had mentioned, not Polly Scale. Thanks for clearing that up.
