Liguid Mask
Posted by genj53john on Sunday, December 21, 2003 10:33 AM
I've just purchased some Micro-Mark Mask-It Easy Liquid Masking Film and I'm having a problem getting a uniform coating on some canopies I'm working on. I've cleaned the canopies with liguid dishwashing soap to remove any oils (actually have washed them several times), rinsed them with clean water and let them air dry. When I brush on the liguid mask it seems to pull away from numerous areas creating small holes in the masking. There seems to be nothing I can do to stop this from happening. I've used thin metal film in the past but this just seems to be a much easier way if it works. Any suggestions?

Never used the Micro Mark stuff, so I cant offer any help there.

I use Ambroid or Bob Diveley as I have both.

is it really thin and runny? or is the problem something else? With out knowing exactly what the problem is or not having used that product before....

Try this, Put one coat of masking on....allow to dry thouroughly(I know the brands I use can take from 45 minutes to several hrs depending on how thick the coat is) After it has dried put on another coat really concentrating on the areas which have given you problems....

Micro marks masking may require several coats to build up full coverage and protection, like I said I havent used it before. With the Diveley and Ambroid one coat is all I need.... Also are you thinning it any? If so you might want to try it without thinning it at all.....
Hope this helps

Thanks for the hints. The stuff is really pretty thick. It just seems to shrink away from small areas and create voids. I actualy tried to dilute it a little to see if that would help. it didn't.
