tamiya acrylic paint

You can thin certain water based paints with lacquer thinner, but I do not recommend you use lacquer thinner with it. I've experimented with that to get that extra bite on the plastic but it's not worth the trouble. If you are brush painting then just thin with water, especially since you are using it as a wash.

The problem with brush painting with Tamiya acrylic is that the paint will lift a previous layer. You have to wait for the first layer to cure before brushing a second layer or try to brush the base coat in one try.

There shouldn't be any problems using Tamiya as a wash over the Mr. Color lacquer. I assume you are in Asia somewhere. Model Master Acryl and Polly Scale are both very easy to brush paint with, but are probably not easy to find in Asia.

thanks hangfarlow. now my problem is i dont have an airbrush. can I thinned a water base paint using a lacquer thinner like the tamiya paints or i will just use water for thinning it?

Yeah, if you are using it as a wash then thin it like 10% paint to 90% thinner or something around that. Tamiya acrylic is great for airbrushing, but for brush painting it is a little difficult to use it right.

thanks J - Hulk I'll just try it again. since use tamiya acrylic as a wash do u still add water or its straight from the bottle? as I understand its the same principle with weathering using lacquer base paints like 10 paint and 90 thinner?

Hmmm....I often use a Tamiya acrylic wash over Gunze lacquers, and it works fine for me.

I thin Tamiya acrylics just a bit (using the ol' "milk" rule) for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A thinner, and it's beautiful. I've never tried water.
Some folks swear by it straight from the bottle, though.
