Dude, that's highway robbery! I use the same stuff, same size and I paid $5 bucks! You'd be better off getting it online somewhere. Check all the ads in the FSM mags and visit websites, you should be able to find it elsewhere a lot cheaper, even with shipping charges. Check out Spruebrothers.com and Towerhobbies.com to start. Just my opinion.

I expect things to be a bit more expensive in Canada, but not THAT expensive. Tongue Tied I can buy a 1/2 pint Testors Acrylic Thinner for half of that price in the US.

You may want to check out this thread on Acrylic Thinner and options.

Yes, the Model Master Acrylic is somewhat touchy and can turn into sludge with the wrong kind of thinner. But I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol and it seems ok. It costs less than $1 for a 1-pint bottle.

We get raped regularly on items like this, but in this case the LHS has taken liberties with your wallet, Frank! This is available online from $5.49 US to $6.96 direct from Testors. At the current exchange that should be $7.50. I hope you didn't buy it! I don't use Acryl anymore, but I've used Windex for cleaning, and that's mostly isopropyl alcohol with a touch of ammonia.

I tried alcohol, Tamiya Acrylic thinner, Mr. Hobby Acrylic thinner, paint thinner, lacquer thinner ... and much more on the Model Master Acryl paint but none of them worked except for the expensive original testor thinner.

Until today, I used Acetone and it thinned the Acryl so beautifully. It's the first time I used it and not sure if there's any down side yet. The cost for 1 gallon of Acetone is about $20 from your local hardware store. The testor acryl thinner is $$$ for 4oz.

I use MM acrylic airbrush cleaner to thin their paint. I picked the 4oz bottle up at Hobby Lobby for about $3 with their 40% off coupon.

Water. Put a couple drops of Acryll in a container of some sort (spoon, bottle, cup, whatever), add a drop of water and watch what happens. It will immediately break down. I use MM's Acryll Thinner for airbrushing but I don't have to pay $15 a bottle for it. Distilled water will work just fine, tap water if you must, and unless the bottle of paint you're using is very thick it doesn't take much to thin it. If it runs or beads then you're spraying it too heavily. If it seems to dry to quickly then go to an art supply store and buy a bottle of retarder for acrylic paints. A gallon of water and a bottle of retarder will last a very long time. If you find that you need to use a retarder then mix it with some water seperately and use that mix to thin your paints. As I said, it doesn't take much to thin Acryll and you only need to add a few drops of retarder per ounce of water so that's why you'd want to mix it seperately.

I'm inclined to suggest standard drug store rubbing alcohol called Isopropyl alcohol (think I spelled that right).

Costs pennies to the volume.

If that were to NOT work satisfactory, I'd be inclined to get a new brand of paint for my needs.

Shelling out dollars for tiny bottles would simply make me walk away laughing.

I use distilled water with MM Acryl's with no problem for thinning.  To clean my airbrush I use Windex.  Awesome thing about distilled water is you can get a gallon at Wal-Mart for like 79 cents.

He said, "Acryl thinner" which is an acrylic. Lacquer and acrylic are not a good combination.
