                        Is it just me, or do modern enamel (flat) paints simply not "flow" off a paintbrush like they used to (well, as I recall they used to!) years ago? I'm using Model Master flat enamels, and I get a fair amount of brush marks. Not to mention that they seem to dry very fast. Too fast. They also seem to not dry "flat", even after a thorough mixing. I use high-quality brushes, so it ain't the brush. I airbrush when I can, and get good results, but it doesn't make sense to use an airbrush for everything. Anyone have a suggestion?

                        Have you tried thinning are some sort of retarder to slow the paint drying down?

                        I typically thin a bit with a compatible thinner, however, I find that when I thin to a spreadable consistency, the coverage (opacity) suffers. Ah! It's always something! I know of no retarder for enamels. If you know of one, please share the manna, brother!

                        Check with the maker of your paint, most manufacturers got their own retarders.

                        Probably the paint. I've gotten brush marks from Testors paint 25 years ago too. The model master 2 paints seem to brush better. Pactra and Humbrol enamel were much better for brushing.

                        Sign - Ditto [#ditto] as did most of thier Acrylics from about 10 yrs ago....Still have a bunch un-opened which are still good, might need to break them out and start using them again!
