Airbrush for basecoating warhammer miniatures*
Posted by Warhammer Brusher on Saturday, February 27, 2010 12:28 PM
I'm new to the AB world and looking for something to make quick, clean, smooth basecoats on warhammer miniatures (25mm and 28mm). Price isn't really an issue, but ultimately the brush will only be used for achieving smooth basecoats quickly. I guess the hardest thing I'm finding to answer online is "Just how much do I need to spend on an AB to get a smooth finish and not obscure detail?". There is TONS of info on different brushes, dual action, gravity feed, etc. but nothing that really says "Well to get a nice finish you'll need to spend XX dollars on a brush". Thanks for any info!

I also play warhammer, and 40k, amd warmachine (yeah, I'm a junkie!)  I have a single action badger 200nh I use for base coating.  You can hold enough paint in the jar to go through quite a few minis, at least 2-3 ten man squads without a refil.  You can get this with 1 small and 1 lg bottle, plus the hose for $76.00

A compressor will cost you a bit more, but not too much!  $89.00 at Wallyworld gets you this.  I used one of these for about 3 years before getting a bigger compressor that will do more than just airbrush.

So long answer, you can spend about $200.00 and get a very nice, versatile setup that will last a long time.  Now start asking questions about paint!
