Unfortunately, there's no clearcoat on the market that you can buy over the counter that won't dull the finish of aluminum powdered paints to some degree.  Testors offers the clearcoat, as it has the same base as what they add their aluminum powders to. Alclad has a clearcoat that is specially formulated for it, so that it'll retain the appearance of chrome. You might want to ask them through an email, if you don't see anything on their site that might help you.  www.alclad.com

Maybe a picture of a squirrel playing a harmonica will make you feel better?

tried that. It only glosses the "toned down shine" that's there after the sealer has been applied.  wish it did work but.......

I'll keep trying

Hud - I used Future over Metallizer on the F-89J that I built for the last Veterans group build and was not at all happy about the way it dulled the finish.  The NMF prior to the Future was pretty nice.  I'd have thought that the Testors overcoat specific to the Metallizer might be better, but I guess your experience disproved that.  Sad

Good luck,

Ken

Any time you put an overcoat over a NMF you change it to some degree. Unfortunately you're using one of the most finicky to use NMF on the market. One that is brittle and has to be sealed before you can mask over it.

You can use Future, it won't hurt the finish but it will change it slightly.

I've never used the stuff, BUT, would you be able to use Future over the recommended sealer to bring the shine back?

using Future as a sealer on Testors metallizer paints

Will Future used as a sealer/clearcoat work on Testors  metallizer paints?  They ( Testors) make a clear sealer to use after painting with their metallizers, both buffing and non-buffing, but it takes away some of the shine of the paint. I'm completely satisfied with the finished luster of the paint until I shoot it w/sealer. I'm hoping that Future won't dull the shine. Any comments or suggestions?  This is my third attempt at sealing a NMF on the same a/c and it's getting kinda of old. I'm tempted to just leave it alone and not put any sealer/clearcoat of any kind on it.  I really like the high shine look  right after polishing. Thanks in advance.
