Klingon bare-metal
Posted by SAKMAM57 on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 8:47 PM

Hello. My name is Stephen, and I have been modeling since I was five.

I am currently re-furbishing two original issues of Star Trek models: the U.S.S. Enterprise, and Klingon battle-cruiser. The Enterprise paint scheme is straightforward, however, I wish to paint the Klingon ship with various metal finishes.

The ship has been stripped of existing coats (as far as I could go), an my question is,do I just use a plastic prep, an enamel clear-gloss coat, or a water-based clear gloss? I have both Testors, and SnL brand metals.      Help!      Steve.

Use a primer that's different from your top coat. If you topcoat is enamel, use water based primer and visa-versa. I believe the Testors one's are enameled or lacquered based? Not sure about SnL.

Thank you!

I have just dug out my FSM article on metal finishes, and is says the exact same thing.

You are truly an FSM pro!

Steve.
