A recent thread about one of my favorite products--- Pollyscale Clear Flat, and the difficulty of spraying it properly without almost immediate tip dry--- mentioned that since Pollyscale was acquired by Testor's they probably aren't bothering to formulate the Pollyscale thinner precisely anymore, leaving distilled water as the only alternative. Damn Big Companies! Since I was just about to purchase some Pollyscale thinner, it made me think of how many ways we'll probably have to change our buying decisions in this new world of modeling--- the world were everything has been assimilated by Testor's. My first reaction is to resist, but I suspect that resistance is futile......... However, maybe there's a way we can use groups of users--- like the ones who come together at this forum--- to collectively lobby Testor's for changes in products we would all like to see. Probably the only potential advantage of having one big company own everything is that you only have to talk to one company. How that communication with the company could be effectively organized and carried out is the question............... Ideas? Comments?

Should be easy. Just call Testor's and ask to speak to their Customer Relations VP, Mr. D. Vader. He seems to be a bit asthmatic, but a very understanding fellow……
Can you say "evil empire"…I knew you could!
Seriously, if you can get enough people talking to them, they might listen. Whether they will do anything about it is another thing, but it's worth a try. Sort of like writing your Congresscrittur……

I suspect your chances of success are about on par with sending customer feedback to Microsoft and expecting them to make a product that works! Now that I have said that out loud, my computer will 'mysteriously' crash!

Personally I like Testors products and use them for about ninety percent of my modeling. I have used them for about 65 years.
However, if you do not like Testors, there are still many, many brands of paint. There are a lot more available now than when I started modeling in the late forties and early fifties. Some of these are very good paints. Floquil was one I used as a kid and it is still available. i also occasionally see a new brand pop up now and then. Some are tied to certain genre like ships or model railroading, so you may not notice these, but they can be used for any model genre.

I'll never forgive Testors for cancelling the excellent Floquil Military Color line as well as the Aeromaster paint line made by Floquil. I use ModelMaster enamels only because they are the only hobby enamels available locally.

Ditto!
I had only discovered them and fell in love with them. Then as I started to use them, they were taken away! Nothing all that bad about MM enamels, but the Floquil was superior to me. I am still using Floquil Engine Black in the model rail road line for any thing black. A very smooth flat finish every time and I think more resistant to handling.

On my workbench now:
It's all about classic cars now!
Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?
I've used Tamiya's thinner for their acrylic paint with Pollyscale flat with no issues, just thought that may be an alternative.

I'm a bit of a stifler when it comes to mixing paints with thinners. i will only use the same company thinners as the paint. The only exception is with Polly scale and Gunze which I use distilled water and/or the universal Testors thinners.

Hehe...sorry, couldn't resist. I am with you on this, I typically use a proprietary thinner only for it's intended paint. Even Testors "Universal" hasn't yielded good results for me with other brands.

Hey Chris,
"The Stifmeister" is a legend HAHA!!!!!! I only use the Testors Universal acrylic thinner for the Polly Scale and Gunze. I used to use the Tamiya acrylic with Gunze with good results, so perhaps you could try that. I hate using distiled water for thinning, I just don't seem to get good results with it.
