I use Alchohol....for thinning/spraying....for brush cleanup I either use water(with drop of Dawn)or Alcohol...Seems to have worked fine for me.

water works ok. Some use distilled water because there water has alot of impurities that leave a residue. I use tap water with pretty good success.

I sve the thinner for cutting it or for stuff that is hardenend or difficult to clean out of the brushes. Usually during airbrushing, I'll run some thinner between colors just to flush it or alcohol if I'm short.

Or ..... because most Tamiya paints are airbrush ready, you don't have to thin them at all.

You can use regular old alcohol, but it might leave a gritty finish due to the alcohol drying up the paint in mid spray. You can get a pretty big bottle of Tamiya thinner for 7 or 8 bucks (not including s&h) from most any online retailer if your local shop doesn’t have it. Bottles lasts me 10-20 models.

I know the best thing to thin the tamiya acrylics is the tamiya thinner, but I dont have any, what else can you use to thin it with? Denatured alcohol?
Mineral spirits?
