too many options

I have never tried Tamiya's thinner with MM Acryl.  I have used Testors Universal thinner with it, works so-so, but that's pretty much par for the course with Model Masters Acrylic anyway!

As a general rule, I avoid Tamiya's thinner with anything but Tamiya.  It is an alcohol based thinner, and most acrylics don't like alcohol!

Folks I know who do use MM consistently swear by just using distilled water and a drop of retarder.

I am a firm believer in using the paint manufacturer's recommended thinner.  Think of all the time invested and fun you had putting this kit together.  Not to mention the cost of the kit.  Then, if the unthinkable happens.......  I once had a bad esperience where everything started off great, then the thinned paint started doing strange things in my air brush and on to my model.  The few cents I saved with a substitute thinner didn't cover the mess it caused.  I vowed not to let this happen again and I have never had a problem since.  Uh, with thinner, that is.  Maybe it was just the operator, but I don't wish to tempt fate.  I hope my 2 cents worth helps,

I would be more likely to try alcohol as a common thinner instead of mixing brands. From some of the other posts I've seen here, all of the different brands seem to have a little "something extra" in their thinner that works just fine with their own paint - but isn't always compatible if you start mixing. Maybe just try a small amount & try brush-painting to see if there is any odd reaction? Anybody else?
